So, I just chased my 7-mo-old kitten around the apartment as she swallowed a piece of yarn, spaghetti-like. It was maybe 6" long? It was plain wool.

I've heard horror stories about things like this getting tangled in their little intestines, about surgery, and death. But I've also heard about them eating crazy things and being fine. So my questions:

1. Will she digest it, since it was just well...sheep's wool?

2. Is there anything I can give her to either aid her digestion or cause her to throw it up before it gets too far?

What did you do this weekend? Mow the lawn for the last time? Maybe do some laundry? Michelle's been quite a bit busier than you, buddy.

A couple of weeks ago, my dad brought home a 4 or 5 month old golden retriever mix puppy that he found behind his workplace. The pup was not in good condition, he was extremely skinny, and was practically falling asleep standing up from lack of energy. The vets tentatively diagnosed him with parvo (he never tested positive for it, but had the exact same symptoms) and after 5 days at the vet he came home with us.

Now, he's been a great dog so far. The only thing I'm having trouble with is when he goes to bed at night. I've been crate training him, and when I put him in his crate he almost immediately begins crying. Having had one dog with separation anxiety already, I try to ignore him, hoping he will eventually fall asleep. It seems, however, he spends more time crying than he does sleeping. I've never gone to him while he's whining, always waiting for a quiet moment to let him out of his kennel. Recently, I started letting him outside in the middle of the night to potty and this seems to relieve things a bit, but he will eventually start up again. Especially if he hears anyone moving around the house.

I've never had a dog that was this persistent with crying in his crate. I've tried putting a toy in there with him, or tiring him out before bedtime, but he still just paws at the door of his crate whining instead. I don't actually have the crate in my room, because I just don't have the space but it is right around the corner from my bedroom. I'm running out of ideas to help alleviate this. Do i just need to continue to let him cry it out every evening and hope he picks up on the fact that I'm not going to let him out, or are there any other suggestions to help with this problem?

What's the difference btw "to save" and "to preserve"?
Are they interchangeable?

Last night my boyfriend and I were discussing the difference between the way men and women feel towards people that they have sex with.

My boyfriend thinks that a woman always forms an emotional attachment to a man that she has slept with. He thinks that this emotional attachment can happen even if its a one night stand. He says this does not happen for men because men can have lots of sex and they do not get attached to the people that they sleep with (also because men just like to "spread their seed").

Do you think this is true or not? Do you think that women or men form emotional attachments to people just because they have slept with them, even if it was only a one night stand (and did not know that person before the day they had sex)?

So this has been bugging me for a few days now, and I thought it'd be good to let other people weigh in on it.

I've noticed a lot of talk lately about realism, and things being naturalistic. I don't really know what that means (well, I know what it means, but what is more realistic about a b/w icon compared to a blue and purple one?), but I've been seeing it a lot. Personally, when I make icons I want to get as far away from reality as possible. When you think about it, what's realistic about the things we're iconning? TV, movies, even photoshoots are staged and very rarely depict 'reality'. I think that my icons are very much from my imagination... or something.

I don't think I'm getting my point across very well :P Basically I've been asking myself a lot of questions like: in my imaginary world, why can't the sky be green and people's faces be blue? What makes that less valid in a 100x100 square to pink faces and skies? Why can't I play with the aspect ratio? Why can't I make Joseph Fiennes look more like an alien? lol. If we can't experiment in icons, then where can we let out all of those emotions and creative desires that we've got? Isn't that what it's all about - to be an escape? An escape from reality? This isn't just about colouring and stuff, but I guess I want to know why people cling to reality in these little boxes, and why people get so offended when other people don't.

So it's not really a question, and I haven't articulated myself very well... but idk, maybe this can spark some discussion :P

This is a looooong story so I'll try to remember all the facts.


I had sex for the first time in August. It all started to what I thought was herpes (but was actually just a pimple) and having some brighter than normal discharge. The first doctor, without any testing, said I had bacterial vaginosis and did douching and an insert pill. Of course douching is BAD and he was a douche-y doctor so I found another one.

I took an extensive STD test and everything was negative. After my period, everything seemed to go back to normal.

October 1st, I was struck with a sudden UTI (first one EVER) and got a three day dose of antibiotics. I went back after a week so they could test and they said I was fine, although I was still feeling weird down there.

Two weeks later, I had sex with my boyfriend and my clitoris burned so badly about 5 minutes before we finished. I went to the doctor the next day (the stupid one) and again without testing, he said the UTI and the bacterial vaginosis much be treated together. Again with the douching... I left to go to the other doctor (the male gyno was the only one open on Saturday so I went because I was worried). The other doctor did a vaginal and urine test. She found 3 kinds of bacteria (Streptococcus Agalactiae, Escherichia Coli, Enterococcus Faecalis) and fungus (Candida Albicans). I received a round of antibiotics, inserts, and a cream.

I had slight itching, but not terrible. My discharge was a bright yellow. My boyfriend and I stopped having sex for two weeks (recommended by the doctor) and I also tried acidophilus + doing the yogurt remedy.

One thing, when I started the inserts, my lower abdomen started to hurt. Not all the time, but every now and then. It feels like menstrual cramps but I'm not do for another week (on the pill). I started to worry maybe it was PID. But I also developed horrible gas when I tried the garlic method (two cloves chopped up and swallowed.... not doing that again). I also had the cramping last time and it was about a week before my period (on a different set of pills). The douche doctor said it was from the "inflammation". But the cramping went away as soon as my period came.

The cramping I'm worried about. Of course there are several possibilities to the cramping (gas, the pill, the inserts, PID, the infection...). The other symptoms seemed to have all but disappeared but the cramping every now and then. It's not terrible pain but just that uncomfortable sudden menstrual cramp feeling and it's gone.

I can't go to the doctor until next week... (work. I live and work in JAPAN so, take the morning off for the doctor??? WHAT?! -_-).

Hey there.

I realize there are several entries in this community relating to webhosts already, but I haven't seen this exact issue mentioned... Ive been with Netfirms for a while now and I was pretty happy with them, except for the last, say, 6 months. During this time, I've had malware issues on average, every 3 weeks. I go on my site and all of a sudden there's a malware error message and when I check the files on the server, there's some malicious line of code inserted into almost all of my files. Tech support is essentially useless and tell me to reup my files and set the permissions to something more secure. 2 or 3 weeks later I get the same problem. The last time I did this (yesterday), the error message was back right away.
It's a really urgent and big issue because I'm hosting clients' sites on top of my own. So now I'm looking for a new webhost, but their level of security is a huge thing for me. It's hard to judge based on reviews online because there's always tons of positive AND negative reviews for any host I look up.
Advice?

My poor Jack Russel Terrier who is 7ish months is infested with fleas! We've had this problem for almost 2 months. He is COVERED in them! His skin is always pink and he has bald spots on his back legs and scabs on his back. He's ALWAYS scratching. We've given him flea bath after flea bath and it works for maybe a few hours and then they come back. We've also sprayed our furniture down with Raid flea spray but he still gets them! Where else should we spray? The only room with carpet is our bedroom and he's not allowed in there, but I'm sure vacuuming that would help too but I just don't want to spray in here, ya know? But I dunno if I need to or not. Also, we have 2 cats but they seem fine, hardly ever do I seem them scratch and I never see fleas jumping around on them. This is just very frustrating! I'm tired of seeing my poor dog suffer. I know I should get some flea stuff from the vet but the money situation is so tight right now, but I've been saving up to take him. Is there any other things we could do to get rid of this?

Thompson plans to sell a line of jewelry and scented candles. The wax from the candles can be used as a massage moisturizer. The new adventure is very personal.

"I had known her as a customer at Jaffi's," smiled Christenson. "She came in and she said, 'I want to do a photo shoot for you and I will rock it.' I just laughed and thought she's so adorable. Of course we'll use you for a photo shoot. And, she rocked it. It's probably the best photo shoot we've ever done."

The rest is history. Thompson went on to win America's Next Top Model hosted by Tyra Banks. Since then, she's on major magazine covers and traveling the world. In fact, she stopped in Jacksonville for just a few days before flying to some other far-away place.

Thompson will be back in town briefly over the next two weeks.

She's giving a modeling seminar on November 20.

New promo pics for episodes 10 and 11 of BBC's The Adventures Of Merlin ( even though Merlin himself is more of a sidekick now and not the lead imo ) and it looks to be that the last couple or so episodes of season two look to be stronger and much more on par with season one's solidity if you can even call it that. At least their use of the reset button at the end of most of the episodes is pretty consistent and a true constant that I am sure a lot of fans absolutely love !

Anyhow, onwards with the massive photo post and again, since a lot of you have not seen season two yet or have not watched it online I will post these under the cut to be safe.

Morgana fans should be very happy with these to say the least and Merlin looks to be gaining a bit of much needed muscle.

How sick should one be before skipping lectures in university?

Inspired by the fact that I have a cold, the desire to stay in bed, and don't want to freak anyone out by coughing (SWINE FLU!).

If you got it, did you experience any side effects? Anything beyond the usual 1-2 days of iffy feeling?

Primarily concerned with the injected shot since the nasal vax isn't available in Canada yet.

I'm a pretty lazy girl so I keep 1 "special" cup in my room and pee in it during the night if I have to go (so I don't have to go all the way to the bathroom which happens to be only about 2 feet away from my room HAHA). ANYWAY, I have my cup and then every morning I'll take it to the bathroom, dump it and rinse it. Well even with all the rinsing I do theres still a build up of CRUD in the bottom of the cup so I got the idea to clean it out. I put hand soap and water in it and left it sit ALL day only to rinse it out really good and still have the build up in it!!! So I poured a little hydrogen peroxide in the cup and HOLY BALLS! It fizzed and got all foamy, and it crackling and making noise! Now it looks like shaving cream in the cup. Haha. That's all. I took a picture but it literally looks like white shaving cream.. Doesn't even look gross.

For those of you who had your tonsils out as an adult: What do you wish the people around you had known before hand or done while you were healing?

My girlfriend goes in to have hers removed in just under 4 hours (if it matters, she's getting her adenoids out, too). I'm looking for tips on how best to take care of her, past what's already on the recovery papers. Her mom is going to be here for the first 36 hours or so post-surgery, so I won't be alone. We already have tons of mushy foods and know that she's going to be extremely doped up and on serious pain killers. What else do I need to know/be aware of/be prepared for?

Hi Natalie. Firstly, I'd like to clarify: are you considered to be Cascada, or are you the image and vocalist of what is, in fact, a group?

Natalie Horler: We actually are a group. I work with two producers [Yanou and Manian] and the three of us make up Cascada. They just don't come on tour, that's all; I do the whole live bit and they do all the producing. They've always chosen to stay low-profile where I've always been the face of everything, that's why sometimes there's a misconception.

What about the song-writing, is that a collective process?

NH: Yes. Although Yanou and Manian do most of that... Yanou is the brains behind it.

Corey Taylor married Stephanie Luby at Las Vegas's Palms Hotel, where the wedding party walked down the aisle to Metallica's "For Whom The Bell Tolls." (Should have been "Harvester of Sorrow")

The 350 wedding guests who packed the hotel's Pearl Concert Theater – fitting since the wedding quickly turned into a concert – included Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath, as well as Camp Freddy's Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison, who acted as the minister. To no one's surprise, the rockers all took the stage, a source said, and even the groom joined in on three songs.

Slipknot, known for its hard rock and the clown-like masks they wear on stage, won a Grammy in 2004 for their single "Before I Forget."

has anyone tried using very-fermented kombucha as a hair tonic? if so, let me know how much you applied, how often, and if you noticed any difference. i can't imagine it smelling very good, though i have used apple cider vinegar, and the smell fades once my hair dries.

i was writing a paper for a leadership philosophy class, and the topic of this paper was to write about something that you consider to ALWAYS be morally or ethically wrong.

for instance; torture, which is normally considered morally wrong, could be considered morally ok to gain information from terrorists about a planned attack. (just an example, not my opinion)

Now that "America's Next Top Model" is in its 13th cycle, there are only so many ways to keep the concept fresh. Making the girls pose as circus animals? Done. Including a transgendered beauty named Isis? Done. Shaving the models' heads? Done to death.

So this time around, Tyra Banks lowered her standards. Literally. Only candidates 5-foot-7 and shorter were allowed to audition, whereas most runway models are 5-foot-10 or statuesquer. It gave 5-foot-6 Erin Wagner of Spring Grove the chance to try for a career as a petite model. And now that the competition is down to just four girls, Erin is emerging as the closest thing to a villain the producers can come up with.

"I know I came off as bratty, but it's reality TV so I've accepted my edit," says Erin. "Everyone watching should just keep in mind, what you see is not necessarily what you get."

The accused "modzilla" clarifies some of her more scandalous moments.

Nov. 15--Beaver County's reality-television sweetheart has found a new TV gig.

Joanie Dodds -- who'd you think I meant? -- will co-host "Run My Renovation," a home-improvement show on the DIY network.

"We just started filming, so it won't be on TV until like January or so," Dodds, formerly of Patterson Township, said. "It films in Knoxville, Tennessee, about every other week, so I'm on the road a lot but it's a super fun experience and I'm learning so much. I even get to drive a big red pickup truck."

Doesn't take much to please the former "America's Next Top Model" runner-up, eh?

Since her appearance on that CW program, Dodds, 28, has become a pro model, spending a few months this year in Italy's fashion mecca, Milan.

But a steady job as a TV show hostess is a bigger deal, even if on a network like DIY, which people with basic cable or standard satellite service can't get without an upgrade.

"I just hope that this is the beginning of an empire for me and I am the next Pam Anderson-Martha Stewart hybrid," Dodds said with a laugh. "I'm going for sexy mogul."

A Minute With: Michael Fassbender and his "Fish Tank"

He may not be a household name in the United States, but Michael Fassbender is fast becoming one of the hottest young stars in Hollywood.

The actor got his big break when Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks cast him in their "Band of Brothers" World War Two mini-series. He also appeared in the hit movie "300." In August, Fassbender drew acclaim for his portrayal of undercover British military man Archie Hicox in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds."

He is also winning praise low-budget "Fish Tank," a coming-of-age tale in which he plays a handsome young man who strikes up a volatile relationship with frustrated teenager played by newcomer Katie Jarvis. The movie won the Jury Prize at the Cannes film festival, and has been for eight British Independent Film Awards. It will not be shown in the United States until January.

Fassbender spoke to Reuters about the film, swimming with sharks and fighting with actress Megan Fox.
